Who We Are

Kym Netherton - Founder and Clinical Lead

EDS was founded by Kym Netherton in 2017, she is a qualified Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and holds a Masters Degree in Working with People with Eating Disorders and Body Image Disturbance from the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust. She is an Associate Member of the Tavistock Society of Psychotherapists and a registered member of the BACP.

Kym has specialised in working with people with Eating Disorders since 2005. She has extensive experience of working in and with the NHS and was previously the Clinical Lead of SWEDA - Somerset and Wessex Eating Disorders Association.

Having recovered from an eating disorder herself, Kym is passionate about empowering other sufferers to fully recover, and is in a unique position to help them to do so. Kym focusses on clients holistically, and seeks to include the experience of body, mind and soul in to the therapeutic work that she offers. She draws upon behavioural and positive psychology, neuroscience, ancient wisdom, psychoanalysis, mindfulness and creative modalities in her work.

While having recovered herself, Kym recognises that every persons pathway through recovery is different. Although she uses her own experiences to inform her practice, and can draw on her powerful insights she also has an ability to see and attune to her clients in a way which supports their own individual journeys.

Kym is a qualified yoga teacher and keen aerialist, she loves being in nature and you’ll often find her balancing on or hanging off a tree if she hasn’t dived in to the undergrowth to marvel at a mushroom! She loves meeting people’s pets during online sessions so if you find your dog, cat or bearded dragon a soothing presence, you are very welcome to bring them along.

Kym realised when setting up EDS that she was only one person and would need to have trusted colleagues to work with in order to support as many clients, in as may ways, as possible. Kym now has a hand picked team of psychotherapists, nutritional therapists, craft therapists and yoga teachers that she refers to, collaborates with and/or supervises across the South West of England and Internationally.
